It was our pleasure to shoot Alannah and Callum’s wedding reception this July, at the Old Nene Golf & Country Club near Peterborough. The venue is nicely tucked away into the Ramsey countryside, quite a distance from any intrusive Peterborough traffic noise. In fact come to think of it, any noise at all. The location is so private that once you settle into the grounds, you would be hard pressed to guess where you are in relation to the outside world. Once the golfers have finished for the day it is beautifully peaceful and relaxing. One of the luxuries of working a venue like this is indeed the space. The club house is not only surrounded by a golf course but beyond that, seemingly endless fields broken up only by the odd wind turbine – something which is difficult to avoid these days!
The couple started their evening by arriving in an immaculate, vintage, cream, VW Camper van. The chauffeur assured me that the vehicle was all original and it certainly looked like it. It was an excellent choice to match the young couple, kicking off the night with bags of quirky style. I must confess, I can’t help myself around vintage cars but after we got the arrival shots we needed, the bride and groom had a couple of hours with their wedding guests while I prepped the smoke flares and lighting.
As they already had the main part of the wedding ceremony in Cyprus, they had all the standard wedding shots safely tucked away. The UK wedding reception was a fantastic opportunity to do something a bit different. I had suggested the use of some commercial grade smoke flares to add some colour and sparkle. Alannah loved the idea and was onboard straight away. I’d spoken to her in the build up to the evening and discussed the colour scheme for the wedding decorations. We both thought it would be good to match the smoke flare setups with the yellow used in the main room and add a few hues that complimented for the group shots. As you can see from the finished photographs, this was a lot of fun.
Just one of the many styles we could have used to let their youthful enthusiasm really shine and walk away from the evening with something unique.
