When a photographer shoots a wedding, it’s very often the case that the day, or even sometimes days, get broken down into clearly defined mini events. As the flow of the big day gets orchestrated, the time constraints can actually make everyone’s life easier. If you know where you should be at any given moment and with whom, less can go wrong. Of course with so many people involved in the process, things drift and can get slightly out of sync but as a rule – stick to the schedule and don’t panic.
Most people would agree that from a female perspective, the first milestone on the day for the bride is hair and makeup. This is the primary nerve settler and can set the tone for the next 18 hours so the photographer shouldn’t underestimate the benefits of getting the atmosphere right from the beginning. Most brides will have meticulously planned every small detail of the prep for months. They may have had several practice sessions to perfect the finished look. So whatever you do, don’t get in the way. The bride could have her hair stylist, makeup artist and nail technician all doing their thing at the same time so the luxury of space can be in short supply. A photographer can end up in a hotel room full crammed with twelve people that is actually designed for two. Don’t add to the chaos for the sake of getting your shot because it’s not all about you.
L&B were asked to shoot Lou’s wedding set-up at the gorgeous George hotel in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Stamford is a small market town, popular with film production crews due to the abundance of period architecture dating as far back as the 1600s. It has always been a popular wedding location because of it’s authentic, historic landmarks and picturesque Lincolnshire scenery. Lou went for a beautifully natural look, with understated jewellery to compliment the timeless styling of her wedding dress. We captured her transformation from the beginning of the day to the finished look and promise that we did not get in the way.
