November marks the calendar appearance of The Crystal Charity Ball – one of Lincolnshire’s premier black tie events. An evening of food, drink, charity auction and dance floor mayhem with both a live band and DJ. The event was created to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and is now in it’s 7th year. From it’s very first incarnation in 2012, the night has raised close to £80k total. Quite a serious running tally and a fantastic night out. This year L&B proudly donated event photography for the evening at Spalding’s Springfields Exhibition Hall. Everything was captured from decor to dance floor but of course, being sticklers for event photography etiquette, we never ( seriously…just never ) take photos of people eating dinner. The night was a break away from wedding photography but a great opportunity to flex a slightly different set of photography muscles capturing a ball in full swing.

We started the evening darting through the reception crowd looking for a nice selection of outfits. The Crystal Ball always gets in the party mood early on so finding willing models is never a chore. The guests always look tip top at the start of a night like this too so photographers can’t be shy to get some shots. It’s a good idea to get some decor shots at this point. The interior and decor will only get scruffier as the party whirlwind hits so use the opportunity.

After the meal, a delicious fillet of beef, things started to escalate. The party was soon in full swing so we got right into the dancefloor with a 24mm Nikkor prime lens and Nikon D850 combo. An L&B trademark is to capture movement and atmosphere of a crowd. The viewer should feel as if they’re part of the action, not just looking at a musical statue and to be honest, lots of people having lots of fun makes the job an absolute pleasure. We’ve shared just a few of our favourite shots from the night and wish Kelly and the gang every success for next year’s Crystal Ball. May the party long continue.
